In 2006 some members of Koninklijke Harmonie Sainte Cécile Eijsden took the initiative to form an occasional regiment in order to breathe new life into the Carnival of Eijsden. Because of its name, clothing and repertoire the band got a military appearance. The activities of Regiment Rouge mainly take place in the Carnival season. On its repertoire are marches, carnival music and other festive songs which are performed either marching or standing.
The Regiment is under the musical direction of Paul van Aubel and ‘commander’/ drum-major Eddy Lewandowski and includes approximately 50 musicians. Recently the ‘Red Regiment’ participated in the first joined carnival parade of ‘De Druugsjliepers’ and ‘De Klèèflep’ in Eijsden. They also gave some street performances in Maastricht on the eve of Carnival. In the short time of its existence the Regiment Rouge has impressed the public resulting in a great number of invitations.
